Fort Harrison VA Medical Center

For this large VA hospital campus in Montana, the primary challenge was clear: patients and visitors were frequently getting lost. The existing signage lacked consistency and clarity, making navigation through the facility confusing and stressful.
I developed a comprehensive wayfinding plan to address these issues, starting with a full audit of the site. The solution included a system of hanging directional signs, standardized room identification signage, and the integration of interactive digital monitors to help users quickly locate departments and services. Each sign type was thoughtfully designed with clear visual hierarchy and ADA compliance in mind.
I also worked to determine the most cost-effective and durable fabrication methods, specifying appropriate materials for each application. Detailed mockups and material callouts were created for every sign family, ensuring a smooth transition from design to installation. The result is a system that brings clarity, consistency, and ease of use to a complex medical environment.
